Enabling choice

People have a right to choose across all aspects of their treatment and care. Making these choices is much easier when we fully understand the way choices are made. The aim of this section is to explain the various stages involved in this process. These include:

  • Asking the right questions and good communication
  • Accessing high quality and appropriate information
  • Understanding information
  • Making a shared decision about treatment between service user, carer and healthcare professional (HCP)
